Help Your Child Learn To Read
A workshop for parents of children aged 4 – 6

Do you want your child to enjoy reading? To do better at school? To feel more confident?
Do you want to know how reading with your child could be a happier, less stressful, experience?
Do you want to be more confident that you know the best way to help your child learn to read?

Who is the course suitable for?

This is a workshop for parents of children who are beginning to learn to read. It is most suitable for parents of children in Reception and Year 1. If your child is in Year 2 but is struggling to learn to read, you may also find the techniques discussed useful.

The course will be led by Nicky Odgers, Educational Psychologist

What will be covered in the course?

During the evening we will look at practical ways you can help your child learn to read successfully. We will look at what you can do help your child learn the letter sounds, how to help them develop the skill of “sounding out” and how they can learn to read words that cannot be sounded out.
You will also have the opportunities to practise techniques discussed in the workshop so that you will feel more confident about using them with your child at home.
We will be discussing practical ways that you can motivate reluctant readers and make reading with your child a happier, less stressful, experience.
All strategies discussed have been extensively researched and have been proven to work successfully.
